My Experience
Early career.
My journey in sport began at the age of twelve, playing rugby league — a passion that shaped much of my life and career. I went on to play for numerous professional and community clubs and proudly represented Great Britain Students. Alongside playing, I developed a love for mentoring young people, coaching junior and teenage rugby league players and helping them build both skills and confidence on and off the field. I became a qualified coach on the week of my 16th birthday.
Education career.
I trained as a PE teacher and went on to work in two high schools across the North West of England. Teaching allowed me to share my passion for sport and personal development with young people every day. One of the proudest moments of my teaching career was being nominated for North West New Teacher of the Year at the National Teacher Awards. Later, I progressed to School Leadership.
Talent Pathway expertise.
My experience as both a player and teacher naturally led me into talent development — combining my understanding of performance, education, and wellbeing. I have since held leadership roles at major sports organisations, including The England and Wales Cricket Board, The Football Association, and The Rugby Football League, where I’ve designed and led programmes that identify, support, and develop sporting talent across the UK. This work has deepened my belief that every individual has unique potential waiting to be unlocked through the right environment and culture.
Neurodiversity inclusion.
In 2023, I was diagnosed as autistic, a discovery that has helped me better understand myself and how I work best. As a father of two autistic sons, this is an area deeply personal to me. I am now a passionate champion for autism inclusion in both sport and the workplace — advocating for the awareness, understanding, and cultural shifts that allow neurodiverse individuals to thrive.
